INTRODUCTION:

Ireland’s food and drink industry maintains a well-deserved worldwide reputation for its high-quality products. Consumers require attractive, convenient and safe food products that also offer health promoting benefits. This course is the first step to become a skilled scientist needed for the continuing success and future developments in this industry.

Skills and knowledge in areas such as science and technology, food safety and nutrition are the focus of the course. Throughout the course work students gain insights into the manufacture of current food products. Discover how innovative products can be developed.

This Food Science & Nutrition course is suitable for students who wish to gain employment in the food industry and mature students from an industry background who wish to advance their technical knowledge.

Many graduates progress to Higher Education in Ireland or the UK.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Leaving Certificate, LCA or QQI Level 4 qualification. Ideally maths is desirable.
  • For mature applicant’s appropriate experience will be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
  • Satisfactory presentation at interview.

DURATION:

This is a one-year full-time course.

WORK PLACEMENT / EXPERIENCE:

Students will be required to undertake 10 days of work placement in food, pharmaceutical, healthcare or related industries and services. Students are responsible for arranging their own work placement.
