Fashion Design
(Level 6)

INTRODUCTION:

This course allows students to develop their core knowledge of fashion to a more advanced level. It aims at developing creative and technical skills focused on gaining employment in the fashion industry and also allowing the student the opportunity to present a strong portfolio in fashion.

Project work includes a wide range of activities including design, illustration, trend forecasting, styling, pattern cutting, garment construction, retailing and fashion photography. Students are encouraged to visit regular exhibitions and shows with a view to presenting their work for exhibition at the end of the school year with the college. The aim of the course is to give students skills which will have a strong grounding in the fashion industry.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

  • QQI Level 5 Award in Fashion Design or in a related area is required.

DURATION:

This is a one-year full-time course.

€50 Registration Fee.

WORK PLACEMENT / EXPERIENCE:

Participants will be required to undertake 10 days of work placement in a relevant location. The College will assist participants in identifying suitable placements.

FEATURED FORMER STUDENT:

    Angela Beaumont a former student of this Fashion Design course eventually graduating in 2012 with a BA in Fashion Design for Industry from Heriot-Watt University, Scotland. She announced the inception of the Angela Beaumont luxury womenswear label at Cork Fashion Week, September 2012, where she was nominated for the Designer of the Year Award. Beaumont was also nominated in the ‘Ones to Watch’ category in the Irish Fashion Innovation Awards, March 2013. In June 2013, her work was selected and exhibited in the Irish Showcase RIAN at the Irish Embassy in London….she indeed is an inspiring standard bearer to follow.
