CERTIFICATION:

  • QQI Level 6 Special Purpose Certificate in National Tour Guiding (6S20232)

INTRODUCTION:

If you are looking to start a career in Ireland’s vibrant tourism industry, then our Special Purpose Certificate in National Tour Guiding is for you. This 5 month course will give you the knowledge and skills to work as a tour guide in any of Ireland’s tourism and heritage sites.

COURSE CONTENT:

  • Irish National Heritage and Culture (6N20231):
    Understand the role of cultural heritage products in Ireland and current issues in sustainable heritage. Ireland’s Heritage and Natural Resources, Arts, Crafts, and Architecture.
  • Irish Tour Guiding (6N20229):
    Explore the Tour Guide Role and Industry Knowledge, learn Practical Skills and Safety. Develop Communication, Tour Management and Digital Skills.
  • National Tour Management (6N20230):
    Tour Management and Operations, Safety and Logistics, Communication and Group Management, Itinerary Planning and Commentary, Knowledge of Irish Gateways and Legislation.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants apply online on www.fetchcourses.ie 

CERFL proficiency at B2 for those whose first language is not English.

Those from outside the EEA or Common Travel Area must provide evidence of Stamp Four status to undertake this course.

Applicants must attend an interview before securing a place on the course.

How much does the course cost?
There are no course fees for the course.

What hours are involved?
This is a full-time course, which usually runs for 5 months. The course times are 8.30am – 3.45pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am – 12.45pm on Friday.

What funding is available?
If you are in receipt of social welfare payment, you may be entitled to a training allowance for the programme duration.

How is the course assessed?
The course is assessed through a mixture of continuous assessment, examination and practical demonstration.

Is there work experience?
No, there is no work experience on this short programme.

Career opportunities?
Successful graduates of the programme will be eligible to seek work in Ireland bustling tourism industry. Past graduates have achieved work as a tour guide on a range of Ireland’s cultural sites.
