- QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Software Developer Associate.
INTRODUCTION:
The Software Development Associate Apprenticeship is run by Cork College of FET in collaboration with Fasttrack to IT (FIT).
A Software Development Associate builds and tests high-quality code across front end, logic and database layers. Development Associates typically work as part of a larger team, in which they have responsibility for some of the straightforward elements of the overall project. While the customer requirements will typically be defined and agreed by more experienced or specialist members of the team, such as a business analyst or technical architect, the Software Development Associate will be able to interpret design documentation and specifications.
WHAT SKILLS WILL I LEARN?
When you finish your apprenticeship you will be able to:
- Write professional quality code with sound syntax in at least one language.
- Develop effective user interfaces.
- Test code and analyse results to correct errors found using either V-model manual testing and/or using unit testing.
- Apply structured techniques to problem solving, debug code and understand the structure of programmes in order to identify and resolve issues.
- Operate at all stages of the software development lifecycle, with increasing breadth and depth over time with initial focus on build and test.
- Create functional data models and software designs.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
- FIT requires that candidates for the Software Developer Associate apprenticeship have reached 18 years of age at the time of application.
- 5 Passes at Leaving Certificate Ordinary Level, include maths and English.
- All applicants must satisfy Aptitude Assessment administered by FIT.
HOW DO I BECOME AN APPRENTICE?
To become an apprentice you must first be hired by an employer. Your employer must be approved by SOLAS. As an apprentice you have a formal contract of employment. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be a fully qualified craftsperson. You may progress onto further education within a Technological University or University. Many apprentices go on to open their own business.
